Devlog Journal 8
This week we focused on playlisting and giving feedback to other groups and their games. When designing the art for our game I really resonated with this quote "they have a lot of mediocre ideas, but nothing spectacular, so again they aren’t sure what to pick". I really thought about what to design on the cards that could fit our theme. Do I get complex? Do I go abstract? Do I simplify? I eventually came with the idea of simplicity. The reason being is because our game isn't requiring much of our players. It's simple to do and isn't asking the player to use so many functions. As with the theme of it we decided on buses and I had a concept sketch done and ready and realized that's not what our game needs. Simplicity is key. Simplicity isn't always bad. When I made them I was thinking whether or not I'd get crazy feedback but, all in all everyone liked the designs. When talking about board games I never thought about it but in the quote "...if I sit down at a game table, I can interact with anybody because I'm handed a set of rules which outline how I'm going to interact with these people" it really relates to people's social anxiety. I know plenty of friends who are socially awkward or just get nervous when speaking but, if you play a board game it can really elevate the game and conversations. Perfectly stated in the quote "means that the social dynamics evolve around that base structure". This helps me realize a side of board games I didn't know. We had been playing board games in class with everyone and it really opened me up to people I didn't think I'd speak to and helped start conversations with anyone talking about our experience on the game.
